The Guyana Elections Commission (Gecom) has signaled that a new national house-to-house registration exercise could be run off next year.
Gecom made the disclosure yesterday in a statement in which it informed that a new continuous registration exercise would begin on Monday.
“A brand new and due House-to-House Registration will follow, probably as early as next year, as it has been a part of our mode of operations-not because we were pushed by any political party,” Gecom said.
The last countrywide house-to-house registration exercise was conducted in 2008.
Meanwhile, the new continuous registration exercise, which is the 8th such activity conducted by Gecom, will run until September 3rd, 2016.
In addition to allowing the registration of all persons who are qualified to be electors and citizens who have attained the age of 14 years by a qualifying date to be identified, the exercise will also provide an opportunity for registrants to effect changes/corrections to their particulars.
