The residents of two villages in the Upper Pomeroon River now have access to a water ambulance, which will be used to transport the ill to the Essequibo Coast for urgent medical attention.
The ambulance was donated as a result of a collaboration between Food for the Poor (Guyana) Incorporated (FFP) and Courts (Guyana) Incorporated.
The boat, “ASHA,” which measures 22 x 7.5 ft and is outfitted with a 40 hp outboard engine, will serve the residents of St Monica and Karawab, a press release from FFP said.
The release quoted FFP Chief Executive Officer Kent Vincent as saying that the ambulance was a necessity for the two communities and he implored residents to take good care of it, while promising continued assistance.
Toshao James Miguel, the release said, lauded the two companies and noted that the ambulance will be of great assistance to ailing persons in the community. He added that health workers in the past have experienced great difficulty in transporting patients, especially at nights, and quite often patients died before reaching their destination.
The release added that Clyde De Haas, the Managing Director of Courts, said that the company was pleased to collaborate with FFP and he praised the organisation for its work.
The donation is part of the FFP’s Silver Jubilee Anniversary Celebrations, the release said.
