Guyana practically sealed their berth in the third round of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Caribbean Cup Qualifiers, dismantling United States Virgin Islands (USVI) yesterday by a 7-0 margin in their final group fixture.
Staged at the Adelita Cancryn Facility, the 132nd ranked visitors rebounded from their embarrassing 5-2 loss to 152nd positioned Curacao, thrashing the 192nd placed host’s led by a four goal blitz in the first period that effectively ended the contest.
With the win, Guyana climb to the top of the standings with three points and a goal differential of +4, in the process leapfrogging Curacao who has three points and a goal difference of +3 albeit with a game in hand.
The Guyanese will now await the outcome of the Curacao and USVI matchup to confirm their place in the next round, with the latter needing to win by at least 12 goals eliminate either of the teams.
Trayon Bobb who recorded a brace alongside doubles from veteran duo Ricky Shakes and Anthony Abrams, commenced the rout in the 23rdminute.
The lead doubled as Shakes scored two minutes later before Devon Millington found the back of the net in the 30th minute to make it 3-0. The first half blitz was completed in the 44th minute as Shakes completed his double.
The second stanza witnessed Abrams making his presence felt on two occasions, the first one occurring in the 68th minute to open his account. Bobb further put the hosts to the sword as he completed his brace with a 75th minute conversion.
The lopsided encounter was then completed in the 88th minute as the evergreen Abrams scored to cap off his brace. Round 3 of the Championship will begin in October 3-11; Fifth Place Playoff November 7-15; and the finals are scheduled for May 2017.
