Pouderoyen FC dismissed Young Achievers 5-3 in the always emotional ‘Pouderoyen Derby’ when the third annual Stag Beer sponsored West Demerara Football Association (WDFA) League continued yesterday.
In what can be described as a physical affair following red cards to Alonzo Bowman of Pouderoyen and Darren McCloud of Young Achievers for violent conduct respectively in the 56th minute, Pouderoyen FC survived a Lloyd Prince hat-trick to claim the vital result at the Den Amstel Community ground.
Trailing 3-2 after Prince found the back of the net in the sixth, 30th and 50th minutes, Pouderoyen recorded three unanswered goals in the remaining minutes of the second period.
On target in the fourth minute, Dwayne St. Kitts started the comeback as he found the back of the net in the 66th minute to level the contest. Morgan Denny then gave Pouderoyen the lead as he scored in the 63rd minute before Marvin Frank sealed the deserved result with a 77thminute strike.
With the outcome, Pouderoyen climb to the second spot on seven points while the loser drop to the sixth position and remain on three points.
Meanwhile in the opening fixture, Eagles FC clawed their way past Wales FC 5-1. Stephon Griffith scored a double in the first and 72nd minutes while Orlanzo Henry bagged a double in the eighth and 60th minutes. Chipping in with a 63rd minute strike was Chris Mayfield.
On target in the loss was Kelvin Roberts in the 65th minute while Jaheel Williams recorded a 70th minute red card for violent conduct for Eagles FC. Due to the result, Eagles move onto three points while Wales remain on one point.
Action in the event is slated to continue today at the same venue. At 13:00hrs, it will be a battle of bottom dwellers when Vege Boyz tackle Golden Warriors while the feature contest at 16:00hrs will pit Beavers FC against Stewartville.
All matches in the event will be played at Den Amstel Community Centre ground. Prize monies for the top four finishers will be announced shortly by the association.
