One week after security guard, Candacy Pitt was chopped to death while on duty, her husband of thirteen years was on Friday charged with the crime and remanded to prison.
Forty-one-year-old Athlone Pitt was not required to plead to the indictable charge when he appeared before Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court.
He is accused of murdering Candacy Pitt, 31, of Chelsea Park, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara at the Bygeval Secondary School, Mahaica last Wednesday.
The matter was adjourned to June 23.
Candacy’s cousin, Brenda Thomas, 51, also of Chelsea Park was also chopped during the incident. However, no charge has been laid as yet in relation to the injuries inflicted on her.
Shortly after the incident which occurred around 9:45 hours, the accused surrendered himself to the police and subsequently confessed to the crime.
The police in a press release had said that Athlone allegedly went to the school and dealt Candacy multiple chops about her body after he chopped Thomas, who had denied him entry into the compound. The statement added that after the chopping both women were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where Candacy was pronounced dead on arrival.
