The Route 42 minibus passenger found with an unlicensed pistol and ammunition on Monday, in the vicinity of the Providence Public Road, was denied bail yesterday after he was charged with the offence.
Driver Steve Anthony Ramdass, 30, of 248 Section ‘B’ Block ‘X’, Great Diamond, was charged with having a .32 pistol in his possession on June 5, at Providence, without being the holder of a firearm licence.
It was further alleged that on that same day, he had eight live rounds of .32 ammunition in his possession, also without being the holder of a firearm licence.
Ramdass pleaded not guilty to both charges read.
His attorney, during an application for bail, submitted that the weapon was not found on him, but in the vehicle, where other passengers were seated. He also added that there is nothing to suggest that Ramdass is a flight risk.
Police Prosecutor Neville Jeffers objected to bail on the grounds that no special reasons exist, and stated that the firearm was found in Ramdass’ pocket, according to the police facts. The police press release had stated that it was found tucked in his pants waist.
Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan denied bail to the accused and adjourned the matter to June 29, where it will be heard at the Providence Magistrate’s court.
