Three youths, alleged to have been busted in possession of a stimulant during an undercover operation, were yesterday remanded to prison on the charge.
It was alleged that Omalo Garraway, 24, Chevaro Jubithana, 22, and Olivia Grimes, 23, had 40 amphetamine tablets amounting to 10.5 grammes in their possession on June 6, at Charlotte Street. They all pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Some amphetamines are used under prescription to treat hyperactivity and help impulse control. However, they are also used illegally (called ‘speed’) by persons to get ‘high’ and are addictive.
The prosecution’s facts were that the police, acting on information, held a sting operation, during which an undercover police rank went to the accused and purchased the tablets. The drugs were then handed over to the police, and the three were told of the offence and arrested. The court was told the analysts’ report is still outstanding at this time. The matter has been adjourned to July 5, and the trio were placed on $75,000 bail each.
