Nine volunteers from the Volunteer Support Platform travelled to Barbados yesterday to participate in the Guyana/ Barbados Youth Exchange Programme 2016.
A Department of Culture, Youth and Sport release said that this completes the exchange programme which began in March of this year when a team of 25 youths from the Haynesville Youth Club in Barbados visited Guyana.
The release said that the initiative was conceptualised at the Third Guyana-Barbados Joint Commission Heads of States Meeting in October 2015.
At the Heads of State meeting, the importance of strengthening ties between Guyana and Barbados in the areas of youth development, culture and agriculture was highlighted.
While in Barbados the group will participate in workshops aimed at strengthening and creating new approaches to entrepreneurship through cultural development while building the capacity of young people in order to help create employment and business opportunities.
The team is scheduled to return to Guyana on June 19, 2016.
