Second half goals from James Bowman and Lerone Charles propelled the Guyana Police Force (GPF) to a 2-0 win over Camptown when the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Stag Beer League continued on Thursday.
With the both teams guilty of wasting many opportunities at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Bourda, Bowman broke the deadlock in the 83rd minute under fortuitous circumstances as a right side cross flew into the top left corner over the reach of the diving goalkeeper.
The hard-fought result was then sealed in the 90th+1 minute when Lerone Charles scored, heading down the center of the net after an initial header was parried into his path by the custodian following a left side corner-kick.
With the result, GPF now has 20 points leapfrogging Santos into the second position due to their superior goal difference. On the other hand, Camptown remain in fifth position on 14 points. Meanwhile, Northern Rangers and Riddim Squad battled to a 1-1 draw in the second fixture.
On the backfoot for most of the fixture, Rangers snatched the unlikely lead in the 53rd minute as Adolph George scored, pouncing on a poor clearance by the goalkeeper inside the left of the box, before placing a flat effort into the lower left corner despite the desperate attempt by the final defender to clear the danger.
However, Riddim Squad secured a deserved point in the 72nd minute as Rondel Joseph dribbled the onrushing custodian inside the right of the box and finished into centre of the goal.
Due to the result, Riddim Squad remain in the fourth position on 16 points while Northern Rangers remain in the seventh positon on eight points.
