In what will be a rematch of the League Genesis finale, Alpha United will oppose Slingerz FC in the GFF Stag Beer League Finale championship encounter following respective semi-final wins on Friday at the Leonora Sports Facility.
The repeat final which will be held June 19th, occurred after Alpha United and Slingerz FC made light work of Fruta Conquerors and Pele respectively. In the case of Alpha United, the ‘Hammers’ brushed aside the challenge of Fruta Conquerors 4-0.
It was a far cry from their earlier matchup which resulted in a 3-1 win for the Tucville unit as Alpha took the lead in the 26th minute through Anthony Abrams, who slotted home after an initial strike from Andrew Murray Jr. was parried into his path.
The lead was doubled three minutes onward as Murray Jr. scored with a simple header into the back of the net from a cross from Dwain Jacobs.
While the Tucville improved in the second stanza, Delon Lanferman effectively ended the contest as he netted in the 86th minute, lobbing over the advancing goalkeeper into the net despite the desperate attempt at a goal mouth clearance by a defender.
The score line was eventually completed in the final moments as Daniel Wilson scored in the 90th+1 minute. Meanwhile, in the opening affair Slingerz then FC dismissed Pele by a 3-1 score line.
Following behind to an own goal in the 11th minute via the boot of Kester Jacobs, Slingerz FC punched their ticket to the next round following goals from Clive Nobrega, Julian Wade and Trayon Bobb in the 15th, 48th and 52nd minutes respectively.
Due to the losses, Fruta Conquerors will lock horns with Pele in a rematch of third place playoff. Winner of the League Finale round will pocket $4,000,000 while the second, third and fourth place teams will collect $2,000,000, $1,000,000 and $500,000 respectively. Similarly, the point’s leader prior to the knockout stage will pocket an additional $1,000,000.
The season champion will then be crowned when the winner of the League Genesis and League Finale respectively faceoff in a single matchup. That winner will then earn an automatic berth at the CFU level.
If the winner of the League Genesis and League Finale rounds are the same team, they will earn the automatic CFU spot, with the second berth going to the team with the most accumulated points in both rounds non-inclusive of the eventual season champion.
