In less than a week, the police have issued a second wanted bulletin for a Turkeyen resident for questioning in connection with the lobbing of a grenade outside the offices of the Kaieteur News.
The Guyana Police Force is seeking the assistance of the public in locating 30-year-old Janiel Howard called ‘JP,’ who is wanted for questioning in connection with attempting to cause an explosion.
In a press release yesterday afternoon, the police said Howard, whose last known address is Lot 322 Section ‘C’, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown is wanted for questioning in relation to the lobbing of the explosive device on June 3 at Saffon Street, Charlestown, Georgetown.
The explosive device was thrown at a vehicle belonging to KN Publisher Glenn Lall, which was parked in front of the building. The grenade, which did not explode, landed near the front wheels of the vehicle. The device was later destroyed by bomb experts at the Kingston seawall.
Since the incident, 13 persons, including the owner of the vehicle suspected to have been used to carry out the act, were arrested. Eight of the 13 detainees were released, while police were granted an extension of time to further detain the five who remain in custody.
The car believed to have been used by the perpetrators, was found abandoned in the vicinity of Norton Street and Mandela Avenue after it
reportedly hit a woman before slamming into a utility post. The car owner had given police different versions of how the car was left abandoned.
So far, the motive for the grenade lobbing is unclear.
