Four persons were yesterday charged in a city court with possession of over 76 kilogrammes of marijuana which was discovered during a police raid last Thursday at Versailles, West Bank Demerara.
Balkrishun Ramdass, Ashmeeza Khan, Falcia Laundry and Andre Purran were brought before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan who read the charge to them which stated that they were found with 76 kilogrammes, 910 grammes of cannabis.
The offence allegedly occurred between June 7 and 9 at 54 Alvan Avenue, Romala Housing Scheme, Versailles. All the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge.
A second charge was read to 54-year-old Ramdass which alleged that on June 7, he aided a person or persons known or unknown to traffic in narcotics. He pleaded not guilty to this offence.
Attorney Mark Waldron entered an appearance on behalf of the four defendants and made a bail application. However, bail was denied by the Chief Magistrate and the matter was adjourned to June 24 and transferred to the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court.
