Three persons, including one of the prime suspects who surrendered to the police on Monday afternoon, hours after a wanted bulletin was issued for him in relation to the lobbing of a grenade outside the Kaieteur News office, are expected to appear in court tomorrow.
This was confirmed by Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum who informed Stabroek News that the police today received legal advice to lay charges.
The three, who were identified as Leroy Williams called ‘Buxton,’, Alfie Garraway and Janiel Howard, are expected to appear in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court where they will be read the charge of attempting to cause an explosion.
On Monday afternoon, a wanted bulletin was issued for Howard, 30, whose last known address is Lot 322 Section ‘C’, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown. Hours after the bulletin was issued, he surrendered to police at the Ruimveldt police station in the company of his attorney.
It is still unclear how the trio have been linked to the June 3rd incident. During the course of the investigation, 13 persons, including the owner of the vehicle suspected to have been used to carry out the act, were arrested.
Eight of the 13 detainees were released late last week while police were granted an extension of time to further detain the remaining five. However, three of the five including the owner of the vehicle were released today after there was not enough evidence linking them to the incident.
The explosive device was thrown at a vehicle belonging to KN Publisher Glenn Lall, which was parked in front of the Saffon Street building. The grenade, which did not explode, landed near the front wheels of the vehicle. The device was later destroyed by bomb experts at the Kingston seawall.
The car believed to have been used by the perpetrators was found abandoned in the vicinity of Norton Street and Mandela Avenue after it reportedly hit a woman before slamming into a utility post. The car owner had given police different versions of how the car was left abandoned.
Just last Friday, a separate wanted bulletin was issued for another suspect, Shemar Wilson called ‘Abdue,’ 20. He had not been apprehended up to late today.
