Accused of stealing over $20 million in goods from logging company Baishanlin, a man was yesterday released on $400,000 bail after denying the charge.
Sherwin Sealey, 38, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that he stole a motor lorry valued $20 million and 10 chain saws valued $2 million, the property of Baishanlin. The theft reportedly occurred between May 20 and May 25 at Haimokabra backdam, Upper Berbice River.
The prosecution had no objection to the bail application made by Sealey’s attorney, but asked that if bail was to be granted, that it be substantial. Bail was subsequently granted in the sum of $400,000 and the matter adjourned to June 17 and transferred to the Kwakwani Magistrate’s court.
