PC in 50-5 blow-out win of PS

St. Rose’s High, Marian Academy, the Georgetown Technical Institute (GTI) and President’s College have reached the semi-finals of the National Schools Basketball Festival Georgetown and East Coast Regionals.

On Sunday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, St. Rose’s High defeated Tutorial High 73-33. Shamar Huntley, 15 points, four rebounds and four steals and Leon Ross, 10 points and six rebounds were the main contributors for the winning team while Dequan Manning registered 18 points and five rebounds for Tutorial.

Led by a 16-point effort from Nathan Saul, the Georgetown Technical Institute (GTI) defeated Bishops’ High 51-40.

Saul received support from Kelvin Griffith, 12 points and eight rebounds and Roger John, eight points and 11 rebounds.

For Bishops’ High, Timothy Thompson scored nine points and eight rebounds.

In the battle of the academies, Marian Academy crushed Plaisance Academy 50-38 with Jonathan Mangra recording 15 points and six rebounds in the win while Jordan Alphonso supported with 10 points and seven rebounds and Akili Haynes netted nine points.

For Plaisance Academy, Andrew Johnson scored 19 points and had three steals.

In what was a keenly-contested battle, Presidents’ College edged St. Stanislaus College 41-38. Kadeem Peterkin top scored with 11 points whilst Jaleel Duke scored 10 points and Akeem Crandon six points and 12 rebounds.

Travis Belgrave played a lone hand of 26 points and 13 rebounds for St. Stanislaus.

In the boys’ under-14 quarterfinals, Marian Academy crushed Tutorial High 55-19. Jether Harris, 17 points, Corey Graham, 14 points and 10 rebounds and Tyrese James, six points and six rebounds were the main contributors.

For Tutorial High, Jaden Moses scored 10 points and grabbed four rebounds.

Meanwhile, President’s College blew out Plaisance Secondary 50-5. Lamon Friday scored 15 points, four rebounds and four steals while Akinyelle Derrell recorded eight points, eight rebounds and five steals.

For Plaisance Secondary, Ishmael Chapman scored all five points and he also grabbed four rebounds.

In another quarter final match, St Stanislaus College defeated Bishops’ High 15-11. Jarell Troyer scored seven points and three rebounds in the win while Timothy Richmond scored six points and had three steals for Bishops’ High.

In the final fixture, St. Rose’s High gained a walkover from Queen’s College.

The NSBF Regionals’ semi-finals and finals will be contested in all divisions on June 25th and 26th respectively at the same venue.
