The Ministry of Social Protection has promised to look into the circumstances surrounding the death of construction worker Carl Clarkson, who was electrocuted on Sunday at his work site.
This is according to information received by family members, who paid a visit to the ministry’s Labour Department yesterday.
On Sunday morning, Clarkson was on duty at the building under-construction, located next door to Salt and Pepper on Robb Street, between King and Wellington streets, when a steel rod he was carrying came into contact with electrical wires.
Clarkson called ‘Boy Blue’ had reportedly been on the second storey of the building when the length of steel was handed to him from workers below.
When the rod came into contact with the wires, Stabroek News was told, the impact of the shock sent the man flying into the zinc fence surrounding the building, and then back into the structure. It is believed that he died on the spot. Just as was observed during a visit to the location on Monday, no activity was seen yesterday, and the gate to the lot remained padlocked.
