Beverage giants Banks DIH Limited will partner with organizers of Saturday’s Aliann Pompey International Invitational Track and Field championships at the Leonora Stadium.
The meet will be sponsored under the Rainforest Water and PowerAde brands and will see most of the country’s top athletes competing against international stars at the one-day classic.
The competition has been named in honour of Guyana’s most decorated female athlete Aliann Pompey who won Commonwealth Games gold and silver medals in her stellar career and who is also a four-time Olympic Games representative.
Pompey was on hand to receive the sponsorship cheque from Banks DIH Limited Brand Manager Clive Pellew during a simple ceremony at Thirst Park yesterday.
The former international star expressed appreciation to Banks DIH for sponsoring the meet.
Pellew, in response, said Banks DIH was extremely excited to assist with sponsorship of the event and urged athletic fans to support the meet which commences at 15:00 hours.
The meet will showcase Guyana’s budding athletic stars as well as a lineup of international runners who are in their final preparation for the Rio Olympics in neighbouring Brazil.
