Government yesterday announced that Cabinet this week granted no- objections for large contracts including one for $265m to Brenco Shipping for spare parts to the Transport and Harbours Department (T&HD).
The announcement was made by Minister of State Joseph Harmon, during a post- cabinet press briefing at the Ministry of the Presidency.
Harmon first listed contracts for the rehabilitation and construction of miscellaneous roads in Region 6, East Berbice/Corentyne.
He said that the awards of these contracts are part of an ongoing programme to rehabilitate secondary and inter-community roads across Region 6, especially within communities that his party believes were neglected by the People’s Progressive Party/Civic administration.
The roads, contractors for the projects and the project amounts are stated below.
Arjune Street, Hampshire, Berbice for the sum of $27,092,750 was awarded to Yunas Civil & Building Construction Services.
Rehabilitation/construction of First Street, North Field 10, Joanna, Berbice at the sum of $17,075,200 was awarded to Anirudh Ramcharitar Construction firm.
Rehabilitation/construction of High Dam, Caracas, West Canje, Berbice for the sum of $14,352,000 was awarded to Memorex Enterprise.
Rehabilitation/Construction of Second Cross Street, # 65 Village, Corentyne, Berbice for the sum of $18,889,400 was awarded to Associated Construction
Rehabilitation/construction of Koker Dam, Fyrish North, Corentyne for the sum of $19,805,000 was awarded to Dennis Tahal Engineering.
Rehabilitation/construction of Middle Walk Dam, Liverpool, Corentyne for the sum of $15,705,300 was awarded to Dennis Tahal Engineering.
Rehabilitation/construction of Middle Walk Dam, Lancaster, Corentyne for the sum of $18,012,180 was awarded to K.P. Jagdeo General Contractors.
The Minister of State added that for the works for the supply of line hardware for the Lethem Power Company Inc. and smaller hinterland communities the contract was awarded to S.P.R. Enterprises at the sum of $29,509,876.
And for the installation of a transmission and distribution network at Yarrow, Linden/Soesdyke Highway for the Guyana Water Inc., he said that Faldhari Singh and Sons was awarded the contract in the sum of $21,062,265.
Harmon noted that these works will entail the laying of 500 metres of 150 mm and 7000 metres of 100 mm pipes, along with service connections to deliver potable water to 500 households.
The residents of this community, he said, have been without potable water for more than seventy years.
Additionally, he informed that the contract for the installation of 200mm and 100mm distribution mains (pipelines) along with service connection in Albouystown, Georgetown, has been awarded to Alvin Chowramootoo for the sum of $61,649,500.
According to the Minister of State, this project will service 600 households in the Albouystown/ West La Penitence area and will entail the replacement of asbestos/cement pipes with PVC pressure pipes. This will greatly improve the quality of water being delivered and also in a more efficient and reliable supply of water to the residents.
It was also announced that for the drilling of a well and the installation of transmission mains and service connections at Lima Sands Housing Scheme, Essequibo Coast, a contract was awarded to Suresh Jagmohan Hardware Supplies and Construction Services for the sum of $102,226,400.
This project will provide potable water for about 100 residents of Lima Sands, he said, adding that the community is located about six kilometres aback the town of Anna Regina. Essequibo Coast and was developed by the Central Housing and Planning Authority but was not provided with potable water supply infrastructure.
It is expected that the project will involve the drilling of the well, the laying of pipelines and the installation of connections. It will be completed by the end of 2016, Harmon explained.
Meanwhile, it was announced that Brenco Shipping and Trading Company Ltd was contracted to supply spares for vessels of the Transport and Harbours Department (T&HD) in the sum of $265,475,536.
A contract was also awarded to E. C. Vieira Investment Ltd for the docking and rehabilitation of the MV Kanawan for T&HD, at the sum of $77,500,000.
For the procurement of vehicles for the Ministry of Public Security, a contract was awarded to Car Clean Enterprise for one 15-seater minibus for the sum of $10,100,000.
Massy Industries also won the contract to supply one tractor with trailer pegged at $13,900,000.
The same ministry saw a contract awarded to Automotive Power Products to supply them with seven ATV bikes, six scrambler motorcycles, two outrider motorcycles and bicycles for the sum of $15,455,000.
Olsen Vasquez Establishment was awarded a contract to supply ten 10-speed mountain bicycles for the sum of $200,000.
A contract, for the sum of $114,395,000 was awarded to Car Clean Enterprise to supply five double axel pickups, two 15-seater mini buses, one 19-seater mini bus, seven motor cars, two -prison vans, three canter trucks, one crash truck, one troop carrier and ten sets of flashlights with sirens and horns.
