The APNU+AFC government will honour the outstanding US$40,000 or approximately $8.4M payment, to People’s Progressive Party/Civic consultant, Dr Cobina “Coby” Frimpong, but says that the work he has produced is useless for the area designed.
“It had to with a strategic plan which Dr. Frimpong was to provide for the Ministry of Social Protection… the work, which was done by Dr. Frimpong, is not work which the present Minister of Social Protection can use,” Minister of State Joseph Harmon yesterday told the media as he announced government’s plan to pay off Frimpong.
The Minister of State explained that government decided to pay Frimpong the monies because of contractual obligations. Said Harmon “We are committed to contracts and because we are so committed to these contracts, the balance of the money which was held in the Ministry of Finance was paid over.”
Much controversy surrounded the employment of Frimpong by former President Bharrat Jagdeo, who at the time paid him a US$15,000 per month salary as a consultant for the Poverty Reduction Strategy Programme. It was at a time in 2010 when the minimum wage was $35,000 per month.
