Cyclists competing for the prestigious title of National Road Race champion will participate in the time trials (ladies only) and the road race (ladies, veterans, juniors and juveniles) today in Mahaicony.
The time trials which start at 10:00hrs, serve as the official kick-off to the annual Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF), National Cycling Championships.
The programme for the 1st set of events as follows:

With 3 minutes apart.

Transportation:
Transportation for Cyclists and cycles will leave the Cultural Centre tarmac at 7.45 a.m. for Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara.
Time trials are commonly referred to as the ‘race of truth’ as they require considerable mental concentration and toughness as well as the ability to tolerate intense physical discomfort.
Cyclists compete individually and against only one competitor — the timing clock. Every split seconds counts. Riders’ aerodynamics matched with their physical skills adds up to a simple equation. The fastest man on a bike on any given day wins.
This year, the championships comes with a twist as the the Time Trials for the juniors, veterans and and elite men will be held a week after rather than the customary day before.
The elite men only will saddle up for their Road Race on June 26 on the outer circuit of the National Park in the grueling 75-mile event (30 laps) which starts at 11:00hrs.
Defending champion, Hamza Eastman, 2014 winner, Geron Williams along with Raynauth Jeffrey, Scott Savoury, Chris Holder, Jamal John and Stephano Husbands are all currently campaigning on the US circuit but are expected to compete at the championships.
Orville Hinds and his Team Evolution team mates, Marlon Williams, Michael Anthony, Raul Leal and Akeem Wilkinson are all expected to be at the front of the peloton on race day. (Emmerson Campbell)
