Dear Editor,
The Guyana Police Force Office of Professional Responsibility is currently conducting an investigation following an article in Friday’s Stabroek News on page 16 captioned ‘Minibus driver claims attacked by police’, which alleges that members of the Force were much less than professional in their handling of what appears at face value to have been the commission of minor traffic offences.
Notwithstanding the investigation being conducted by its Office of Professional Responsibility, it can be said the driver in question seems to have committed misconduct and in so doing aggravated the circumstances, thus resulting in several charges being preferred against him in court.
He has since been contacted and a detailed statement obtained, chronicling the entire episode.
The Force is not averse to members of the public who are aggrieved by the seemingly unprofessional behaviour of its members complaining, but it is unfortunate that only one side of the story was highlighted in the press.
Yours faithfully,
Jairam Ramlakhan
Superintendent
Public Relations and
Press Officer
