Santos climbed into the second position in the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Stag Beer League, edging the Guyana Police Force (GPF) 3-2 Thursday at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Bourda.
The youthful Santos unit grabbed the result compliments of own goals in the 27th and 37th minute as well as a 60th minute conversion from Wayne McKennon. On target in the loss was Jermin Castello and Antonio Wallace in the 39th and 58th minute respectively.
Santos now have 23 points while GPF remain on 20 points dropping to third position. Meanwhile, Northern Rangers recorded the largest victory of the event, crushing an eight-member Beacons team 16-0.
Shamar Semple netted a helmet trick in the 10th, 19th, 48th and 52nd minute while Stephon Reynolds scored a hat-trick in the eighth, 12th and 22nd minute. Sonel Logan netted a three goal burst in the sixth, 36th and 65th minute and Nigel Denny scored thrice in the 60th, 74th and 77th minute apiece.
Adding to the rout were Devon Caesar, Terrence Lewis and Gavin Bobb in the 28th, 35th and 45th minute respectively. With the result, Northern Rangers moved onto the sixth position on 11 points while the loser remain in the cellar on four points.
The action continues on Tuesday at the same venue with a doubleheader. In the opening fixture at 18:30hrs, Beacons will lock horns with Santos while the feature contest will pit Western Tigers against Northern Rangers from 20:30hrs.
