Dear Editor,
From news reports, it appears that there is a severe shortage of cereal in Venezuela. I think our government can afford to send a few thousand tons of quality Guyana rice to aid our neighbours in their hour of difficulty. And this would also help our rice farmers, who are struggling to find new markets.
Of course we should be careful to avoid any possibility of politicizing this gesture, so Caricom may be a good intermediary to hand it over, as it has a fairly good relationship with the Venezuelan government.
Yours faithfully,
David Yhann
