Following Guyana’s 22-18 win against Trinidad in the southern zone final of the Rugby America’s North (RAN) 15s championship on Saturday, the National Sports Commission released the following statement.
“The Director of Sport Mr. Christopher Jones and Commissioners of the National Sports Commission extend congratulations to the Guyana National Men’s 15’s Rugby Team (The Green Machine) on their recent win at the Rugby Americas North (RAN) South Zone championship where they defeated Trinidad 22-18.
“This win continues the dominance of the National Rugby Team and is testament to the hard work and dedication the players and coaches have put into the sport.
“The Guyana Rugby Football Union must be recognised at this time for its continued success as they maintain the standard of play to secure victory.” The national team, which also defeated Barbados and Jamaica prior to Saturday’s match, will now face the winner of the Northern Zone (either Cayman Island or Mexico) for the overall spoils of the RAN Championship, but most importantly will move up in the world ranking by at least three places.
The Cayman Islands/ Mexico game is scheduled for July 5.
