A team of experts from the Mexican Petroleum Institute (IMP) is in Guyana for talks on the provision of technical support in developing Guyana’s emerging oil and gas sector.
Mexico is the latest in a series of countries to show interest in Guyana’s emerging oil prospects.
A release from the Ministry of Natural Resources on Monday said that the team which comprises Deputy Director General, Rafael Ramos Palmeros; Senior Advisor to the Director General, Gustavo Oficial Ramirez; Head of Innovation, Zurisadday Enrique Plata Calderon and Manager, Israel Alejandro Vigueras Gamas is being hosted for three days in collaboration with the Mexican Embassy and will be working with a technical team from the Ministry of Natural Resources.
The release said that the partnership will see Guyana receiving technical aid in the development of a Petroleum Regulatory Agency and Institute, and tertiary and technical education and training in the mining, oil and gas and environment sectors.
On Monday, the team met with Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo, Minister of Natural Resources, Raphael Trotman and officers of the Ministry of Natural Resources. During the meeting with Trotman, the release said that the team detailed a proposal for an authentically Guyanese model.
The release said that on its return, the team will develop three white papers for consideration by the Guyana government in the areas of: production and consumption; framework for a regulatory agency; and the development of elements for the establishment of Petroleum Institute.
