A Sophia man who allegedly fatally stabbed his brother early Saturday morning was yesterday remanded to prison for the capital offence when he appeared before Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul.
The court heard that on June 18, at ‘D’ Field Sophia, Orin Jules, 27, of Lot 693 ‘D’ Field, Sophia, murdered Dexter Jules, who is his brother. Orin, a construction worker, was not required to plead when the charge was read to him by the Magistrate at the Better Hope Community Centre where matters are temporarily being heard.
Police prosecutor David Goodridge told the court that on the day in question, Orin and Dexter, who reside at the same address, were having an argument which resulted in the defendant picking up a knife and stabbing his brother. The injured Dexter was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Orin was subsequently arrested by public-spirited persons.
The prosecutor told the court that all investigations into the matter have been completed. He also said that just a month ago, the defendant was sentenced by the Sparendaam Court for threatening behaviour against his mother.
Orin was subsequently remanded to prison by the Magistrate. His matter was adjourned until August 4 for fixture and report.
As previously reported, Dexter, 23, a gold miner, was stabbed several times to his body, including to his chest. He attempted to escape the hands of his attacker by running but eventually collapsed. The incident occurred at around 8:30am on Saturday. The stabbing had allegedly occurred during an argument about entry into the family’s shop.
