The elite cyclists of Guyana will take centre stage this weekend when the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF) stages the Time Trial and the Road Race for its flagship National Road Race Championships.
On Saturday, the time trial starts at 08:00hrs in Mahaicony while one day later, the grueling 75-mile (30 laps) road race will take place on the outer circuit of the National Park starting from 11:00hrs.
Defending champion, Hamza Eastman, 2014 winner, Geron Williams along with Raynauth Jeffrey, Scott Savory, Chris Holder, Jamal John and Stephano Husbands are all currently campaigning on the US circuit but are expected to compete at the championships.
Savory, the fastest man in the New York Tri-State area and 2016 Tour of Somerville champion (first Guyanese to lay claim to that honor) will be fancying his chances.
Savory is riding well and has won eight races this year, he will find the course well suited to his style of racing. Local cycling fans may just be lucky enough to witness a repeat of the Tour of Somerville finish between Scott and defending National Champion Hamza Eastman.
Williams who is also based in the USA will also be gunning to regain the title.
Orville Hinds, (winner of seven races this season) and his Team Evolution team mates, Marlon Williams, Michael Anthony, Raul Leal and Akeem Wilkinson are also expected to be at the front of the peloton on race day. (Emmerson Campbell)
