A 16-year-old girl and her 3-year-old sister are now dead after a tree fell on them yesterday afternoon at Kamarang, Region Seven.
The girls have been identified as Sylva Thomas, 16 and Kerryana Williams, 3.
According to reports reaching Stabroek News, a miner was cutting trees in the area for materials for the village council for an upcoming football tournament. The girl, who had her sister on her back, was walking behind her parents when they heard the sound of a tree falling.
“They hear the tree and then they turn back and shout for her but it was too late,” a source told Stabroek News last night.
According to the source, the tree fell on the girl, crushing her and her sister. The tree was removed and the two girls were rushed to the Kamarang Health Centre where they were pronounced dead.
