A man and his wife were yesterday placed on $50,000 bail each after appearing at the George-town Magistrates’ Court, charged with chopping a man following a disagreement.
Adrian Headley, 36, and Meldiesa Headley, 20, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, accused of unlawfully and maliciously wounding Bernard Griffith with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Both of the accused pleaded not guilty to the offence which allegedly occurred on June 22 in the Cuyuni district.
The court was told that on the day in question, a misunderstanding arose between the couple at their camp, and while Griffith was on his way to complain to the boss, the defendants attacked him with a cutlass and dealt him several chops about his body.
The Headleys were granted $50,000 bail each and placed on a bond to keep the peace until the completion of the trial. The matter will be called again on July 21 at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
