A 24-year-old man accused of shooting a teen on Monday during an argument at Kuru Kururu, Linden/Soesdyke Highway, was remanded to prison when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Andrew Fields of Lot 12 North East Grove, East Bank Demerara, was not required to plead to the charge of attempted murder when it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan. It is alleged that Fields, on June 20 at Kuru-Kururu, discharged a loaded firearm at Kevin Batson with intent to commit murder.
The prosecution objected to bail being granted citing the fact that Batson remains hospitalised and the gravity of the charge. Further, the court was told that other charges are to be laid.
The court also heard that the defendant was sentenced before for robbery under arms. However, the prosecution was unable to state the exact date of the alleged sentencing.
The Chief Magistrate subsequently remanded Fields to prison and adjourned the matter to July 12.
