Dear Editor,
As I was watching the LRTVS newscast the night before last, I was shocked to see the Regional Chairman and his PPP councillors at a meeting in the RDC boardroom. As I further listened I heard the chairman say that he was surprised that the APNU+AFC councillors were not present.
He went on to say that he had invited the councillors and the clerk to the meeting the said morning.
The statutory meeting of the council is set for every third Thursday of the month, starting at 10am, and not the fourth Thursday of the month. The Chairman needs to read his first minutes when he took the oath; he seems to be in a wonderland.
After immediate consultations with the APNU+AFC councillors in the region, I would like to state on their behalf that we were never invited to any meeting that was held on Thursday 23rd June, 2016, and we condemn this act of hijacking. We would also like to state that the last statutory meeting finished last Thursday, and we deem this a PPP meeting.
The council will not allow this to happen again. We are also calling on the Regional Chairman to apologise to the council for saying that it was called by the council.
We as councillors will not sit back and allow the Chairman to further disrespect the council and the clerk who is the REO. What I observed during the newscast is that there was no clerk present at the meeting. The only person present was a police officer attached to the Fort Wellington Police Station.
I want to assure the people of Region Five that we in the APNU+AFC will continue to represent and serve them, and will see that the region’s work programme moves forward as several streets and other works are being done presently in the region.
I call on the Chairman to stop this misrepresentation and let us work together.
Yours faithfully,
Abel Seetaram
APNU+AFC Regional Councillor
Region 5
