In an effort to improve the quality of officiating, the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) will stage its second FIFA Referees Fitness Test tomorrow at the Leonora Sports Facility in West Demerara.
According to an official press release from the federation, the test which will feature 25 elite male and female participants, is a compulsory element of the referee programme and is utilized to test the fitness levels of the officials.
“According to the Head of the Refereeing Department, Mr. Stanley Lancaster, this new FIFA fitness test is “an adjustment of the former and will require shorter distances to be covered in keeping with the game activity of the referees,” the release stated.
According to the release, the duration of the exercise will last approximately three and a half hours, and the evaluation will be done by Member Association Fitness Instructor Lindley Langhorne and will include referees from regions three, four, five, six and 10.
“Elite referees are those who have consistently shown a high level of proficiency in the interpretation and application of the Laws of the Game and have maintained the required fitness level. Referees are assessed four times a year in keeping with the FIFA mandate,” the release stated.
