Last week I spoke about Cordyline terminalis with sword-like leaves. This week I continue with Cordyline terminalis with broad leaves also commonly known as Ti Plant.
A broad-leaf compact form of Cordyline is cv. Hawaiian Sunset, with the old leaves being a deep burgundy and red while the new leaves are green and edged with pink. Another broad-leaf cultivar is cv. Hawaiian Rose. The new leaves are cream with pink and yellow markings and as the leaves mature they turn greenish/brown.
Both of these cultivars are ideal potted plants and can be planted in a semi shaded area with bright light but not direct sunlight.
Cordyline, grown for its attractive foliage, is a florist’s favourite. The colourful leaves can be seen displayed in many fresh florals.
Plant Cordyline in well-drained soil and fertilize with Miracle Gro All Purpose Plant Food every 2 weeks.
NB: With the constant rainfall lawns are getting soggy. Please remember to spike your lawn so that the water can penetrate it. Check your potted plants and make sure the drainage holes are clear so that the excess water can easily flow out.
Until next week, Happy Gardening.
