Post-mortem examinations were performed yesterday on the two children who were crushed to death on Thursday in Kamarang, Region Seven and they were buried with the village council assisting with funeral expenses.
According to reports, the PMEs confirmed that the girls’ heads were crushed.
Commander of ‘F’ Division Ravindradat Budhram informed Stabroek News that ranks are working towards wrapping up investigations and the case file is expected to be sent to the Guyana Police Force’s legal advisor as early as this week.
The two girls, Sylva Thomas, 16, and Kerryana Williams, 3, were pronounced dead at the community health centre on Thursday afternoon shortly after they were crushed by a tree that was being cut by a resident.
The incident occurred around 3 pm, while the tree was being cut for lumber for the village guest house.
Kamarang Toshao Norma Thomas had told Stabroek News that the lumber would have been used for the community guest house which is being prepared to host teams for the annual Upper Mazaruni football tournament.
The family is still trying to come to grips with the tragic incident.
Inglrie Williams, father of the dead girls, said they were walking home after visiting the family’s farm when the incident occurred.
“They were walking in front me and I hear the power saw and before anything else all we heard is one loud bang, the tree fall,” he related, noting that everything happened within a matter of seconds.
He said it was customary for the girls to visit the farm to assist. Their two brothers were walking just ahead of them and had already passed the tree when it fell.
