A police rank died on Saturday afternoon after he lost control of the car he was driving and it flipped over in the vicinity of the Bamia Creek on the Linden/Soesdyke highway.
Dead is Ishaan Caines, 26, of Coverden, East Bank Demerara, who was a police constable attached to the Mackenzie Police Station. The incident occurred at around 3:15pm on Saturday.
Stabroek News understands that Caines was the driver of car, PPP 7636, which was travelling at a fast rate, when he lost control in the vicinity of Bamia Creek. He was the lone occupant of the vehicle.
A relative told Stabroek News that based on eyewitnesses’ accounts, after Caines lost control of the vehicle, it toppled several times before coming to a stop upside down. First responders found Caines several feet away from the car.
The relative said that a bus was passing at the time and offered assistance. Caines was rushed to the Mackenzie, Linden Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Stabroek News learnt that he suffered extensive injuries due to the impact of the accident. The body is currently awaiting an autopsy.
