A youth is now a remanded prisoner, charged with being one of the two men who tried to kill a Kitty man in April.
It is alleged that on April 25, at William Street, Kitty, Kerry Dick, 21, of 15 Pike Street, Kitty, attempted to kill Donald McKenzie.
Dick, who was unrepresented, was not required to plead when the charge of attempted murder was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in a Georgetown court yesterday.
According to Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones, Dick and McKenzie had a misunderstanding on the night before the attack. On the day of the attack, he added, Dick went to McKenzie’s home looking for him and he opened fire on him. Fortunately, Jones said, McKenzie was only hit to his right hand and he managed to escape from Dick. The Chief Magistrate subsequently remanded Dick to prison and adjourned the case until July 18 for report.
Police had previously said that the attack on McKenzie, 24, of Stanley Place, Kitty, was carried out by two men.
The police, in a press release on the shooting, had said that the attack occurred while McKenzie was walking along William Street, Kitty. “Two men on a motorcycle drove up and the pillion rider discharged rounds at McKenzie hitting him to the right hand before escaping,” the release stated.
According to the statement, the suspects and McKenzie had reportedly been involved in an argument previously in a beer garden.
