A truck operator was released on self-bail yesterday after denying the theft of a CD player.
Keon Young, 28, of Lot 24 Kwakwani Housing Scheme, Berbice River, was accused of knowingly possessing the unlawfully obtained music player, which was valued at $15,000.
Young, 28, a truck operator at Bacchus Mining, was arraigned in the court of Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan after allegedly receiving the CD player from Floyd Edmond on May 26 at 14 Mile, Mazaruni, Essequibo.
He pleaded not guilty.
The defendant’s attorney, Darren Wade, requested that the magistrate take into account Young’s circumstances—his age and engagement to be married—as he urged that bail be fixed in a reasonable amount.
The police prosecutor, Deniro Jones, had no objection to bail, despite Young being previously convicted of a narcotics charge.
The defendant was eventually placed on self-bail and the matter was adjourned until July 22, when it will be called at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
