Dear Editor
Based on a conversation I had had with Dr Clive Thomas after the 1992 elections, I asked Mr Tacuma Ogunseye to check his facts directly with Dr Thomas (‘Mr Ogunseye should get the facts from Dr Thomas,’ SN, June 23). Instead he assumes, remarkably, that I am “seeking to defend Dr Jagan” and proceeds to lecture me on the need to record history accurately (‘I was privy to report citing withdrawal of ministerial offer to Thomas’ SN, June 24). If Mr Ogunseye is really interested in the “need to set the record straight in the interest of the nation’s history” then I simply ask him again: Get Dr Thomas’ version, or perhaps Mr Ralph Ramkarran’s. After doing that, he himself might then be “better placed to speak on the issues.”
Yours faithfully,
Clairmont Lye
