Dear Editor,
Decisions have been overturned by those who made them on much more significant issues than which teams are excluded from a particular international sporting event or series of events. Wherever the best interest of the body politic is served by revoking a decision, and there is no prejudice to a party or parties who have benefited from the original decision, that decision should be revoked.
No one questions the fairness of the decision excluding the West Indies from the Champions trophy when the decision was made. It should be clear to all concerned, however, that in light of all that has transpired in international cricket, especially during the first half of 2016 since that decision was made, that the game would benefit immensely by revisiting the original decision and inviting the West Indies to join the other participating countries for the 2017 Champions trophy. The issue should be taken up with some urgency.
Yours faithfully,
Romain Pitt
