The Guyana Amazon Warriors on Sunday winged out for St Kitts where they will begin their 2016 Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) T20 title pursuit against the home team, the Patriots in game one set for Thursday at Warner Park.
Guyana, a two-time finalist in the CPL will look to complete the journey this season with their new-look team led by New Zealand’s Martin Guptill after enduring a week of camp which helped then players to hit their straps and find some form despite some of their sessions as well as one of the practice matches being rained out on Saturday.
Coach Roger Harper and his team was seemingly confident heading into the opener against the Patriots, while the short time players got to gel seemed to work out better than as expected as newbie Australian batsman Chris Lynn said the time the players spent together was crucial for their camaraderie during the length of the competition.
The second assignment for Guyana will be against the Trinbago Knight Riders who they play at the Queens Park Oval on July 2 before returning home to play the Jamaica Tallawahs on July 7. The remainder of home games set for Providence include return matches against the St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots on July 9 and Trinbago Knight Riders July 10.
The St. Lucia Zouks and Warriors will then culminate the Guyana leg of the CPL on July 12. All matches begin at 19:00hrs except the return match against the Patriots which is set to bowl off at 12:00hrs.
