PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC- Coach of St. Lucia Zouks Stuart Williams says he is banking heavily on team effort as his franchise prepare to launch its campaign in the fourth edition of the HERO Caribbean Premier League (CPL) today. Zouks are due to open their season against Trinidad and Tobago Knight Riders (TKR), the defending champions who beat former title holders, Barbados Tridents, to secure the crown last year.
Like the five other franchises in the tournament, the Zouks are lined with a number of international stars as well as some of the leading players in the region.
“I don’t want to single out anyone,” said Williams.
“(I am) expecting a lot out of the team to include Shane Watson, Michael Hussey, better known as Mr. Cricket, David Miller and Morne Morkel. (I am) Also looking forward to great play from Johnson Charles and Andre Fletcher”.
Zouks preparations for the CPL include a four-day camp which was scheduled to end a few days before their opening fixture.
The Castries based outfit will be hoping for an encouraging start when they play TKR at the Queen’s Park oval on Wednesday before taking on St.Kitts and Nevis Patriots at Warner Park on Sunday.
Williams, a former West Indies opening batsman, says he is confident Zouks will advance to the next stage of the CPL this year.
“The intention is to take one match at a time,” said Williams.
“The Zouks has the best players (chuckles)! With Mr. Cricket Michael Hussey and Darren Sammy, fans can expect some exciting matches. I’m also looking to the Zouks to keep moving forward”.
