The police have wrapped up their investigations into the deaths of two sisters who were crushed to death last Thursday in Kamarang, Region Seven and the file is expected to be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) today for legal advice.
Commander of ‘F’ Division, Rabindranauth Budhram, told Stabroek News yesterday that the investigation into the matter is complete and the file will be sent to the DPP’s Chambers today.
The man who was cutting the tree that fell and crushed Sylva Thomas, 16, and Kerryana Williams, 3, is currently on station bail.
The incident occurred at around 3pm on Thursday. The tree was being cut for lumber for the village guest house. Kamarang Toshao Norma Thomas had told Stabroek News that the lumber would have been used for the community guest house which was being prepared to host teams for the annual Upper Mazaruni football tournament.
Inglrie Williams, father of the dead girls, said they were walking home after visiting the family’s farm when the incident occurred. “They were walking in front me and I hear the power saw and before anything else all we heard is one loud bang, the tree fall,” he had said, while noting that everything happened within a matter of seconds.
He said it was customary for the girls to visit the farm to assist. Their two brothers were walking just ahead of them and had already passed the tree when it fell.
