The man who entered a city bank on Tuesday and demanded $10M under the name of Islamic State (ISIS) before threatening to explode a bomb is expected to appear in court today.
Terrence Anthony McLean, 34, of Charlotte Street, Georgetown is scheduled to appear in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court today where he will be charged with demanding money with menace.
He was arrested on Tuesday after he entered the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI), Regent Street, Georgetown branch and demanded the money before threatening to explode a device that he claimed he had with him.
McLean underwent a psychiatric evaluation following his arrest.
The incident occured around 9.30am during which McLean went to the bank with a bag on his shoulder and approached the manager, who he reportedly told, “I want the money or I will blow up the bank”
He then showed her a paper with the caption “Islamic State (ISIS).” The words on the document read, “There is a bomb in the bag, give me $10M or we will all die.”
The manager alerted the security on duty, who held onto McLean.
The police were summoned and they promptly arrived on the scene and took McLean into custody.
A search was carried out on the bag and a knife and several documents were discovered.
Reports revealed that McLean was deported in 2007 for robbery under arms.
