Regan Rodrigues, who is accused of murdering political activist Courtney Crum-Ewing, on Monday once again voiced his frustration at what he maintains is a false accusation against him.
The preliminary inquiry (PI) into the murder charge against Rodrigues, also known as ‘Grey Boy,’ was adjourned on Monday.
Rodrigues was charged in August of last year with the murder of Crum-Ewing subsequent to a gun that was linked to the crime allegedly being found in his possession. Rodrigues, however, was cleared of the gun and ammunition possession charges in January of this year by Magistrate Fabayo Azore after the prosecution failed to prove that Rodrigues had knowledge and possession of the items.
Monday’s scheduled hearing for the continuation of the PI was adjourned to today after the magistrate was unable to hear the matter on that day.
Subsequent to a new date being given, Rodrigues began to express his frustration stating that he was being falsely accused of Crum-Ewing’s murder. After venting to the magistrate for a few minutes, he was calmly escorted from the prisoner’s dock.
Crum-Ewing was shot dead on the evening of March 10, 2015 at Diamond, East Bank Demerara, where he was urging residents to vote against the incumbent PPP/C at the May 11 elections.
He was shot five times, including three times to the head.
For weeks prior to his death, he had held a one-man protest outside the office of the then Attorney General Anil Nandlall, calling for his resignation over controversial statements he made during a telephone conversation with a Kaieteur News reporter that was made public.
