A teenager was yesterday granted his release on bail pending a wounding charge. A city court heard that on June 27, at East Ruimveldt, Brian Yearwood, 18, of 448 Back Circle, East Ruimveldt, allegedly inflicted grievous bodily harm on Steffon Edwards.
Yearwood, who was unrepresented, pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him by Magistrate Alex Moore. According to the police prosecutor, who objected to bail, Yearwood and Edwards are known to each other and he was fearful that the defendant would further interfere with the complainant if released. However, the prosecutor later remarked that if the magistrate wished to grant bail, it should be set at a substantial amount, with conditions attached.
The magistrate later set bail for Yearwood at $75,000 and attached a condition that he visits the nearest police station every Friday. He was also placed on a bond to keep the peace. The matter was adjourned until July 25 for statements.
