Minister of State Joseph Harmon yesterday said government is close to selecting the contractor that will be responsible for the Co-operative Republic of Guyana (CRG) number plates to be used on all state-owned vehicles.
Asked about the issue at his weekly press conference, Harmon said the administration has arrived at the process it would use to select a company. According to Harmon, the Guyana Revenue Authority has held some consultations on the issue and one more would take place in another week, then a selection would be made.
“I think we are at that stage where we are at the point of selecting a contractor for the job,” he said, while adding that some companies have made some very impressive proposals. He said apart from the number plates itself, there is also a security dimension that would have to be tied in.
The initiative to have all state-owned vehicles carry government number plates was first announced by Harmon back in July, 2015. He had said too that all of the licence-plate numbers of vehicles that were registered to the state would be given to the police and lawful action would be taken against persons who sought to keep them.
