The International Children’s Heart Foundation has completed 13 surgeries and 14 interventional procedures during its fifth mission to Guyana.
According to a press release from the Foundation, which is also known as the Baby Heart Foundation, the procedures were performed on children between the ages of 3 months and 20 years.
Chief Executive Officer of Clinical Operations Rodrigo Soto is quoted as saying that the Foundation has also been helping to build the capacity of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) to cater to paediatric cardiac patients. He explained that the foundation plans to maintain its training for cardiology unit nurses and physicians online, the release added.
According to him, the Foundation will be increasing the number of trips made to Guyana annually from 3 to 4 and within the next five years, the GPHC will be able to run the programme independently. Their next trip is scheduled for September of this year.
