A man was yesterday afternoon shot during a robbery at Foulis, East Coast Demerara, where it is suspected that his friend, who is a businessman, was the intended target.
Stabroek News was informed that the injured man, identified only as “Sukhai,” was rushed to the Woodlands Hospital, where he was admitted as a patient.
The attack occurred around 3pm, when Sukhai exited a car which he occupied with the businessman and a driver. They has just returned from the city, where the businessman had visited the Republic Bank branch at Camp and Robb streets to make a withdrawal. Stabroek News was told that the bandits may have traced the car from the bank.
When Sukhai exited the car, three men, one of whom was armed with a gun, approached the vehicle. Sukhai was relieved of $20,000 in cash and three women’s tops that were in a bag, while the businessman attempted to escape by driving away.
The bandits fired a shot, which hit Sukhai to his shoulder, before escaping in a car outfitted with a fake licence plate. Up to press time, they were not apprehended.
Several efforts made to contact the injured man’s relatives proved futile.
