Two armed bandits invaded an Enmore, East Coast Demerara (ECD) supermarket on Friday evening and stole an undisclosed amount of cash and other valuables, while holding the staff and customers at gunpoint.
Stabroek News understands that the incident occurred around 20:00 hrs on Friday at Blossom Scheme, Enmore, ECD and that the supermarket, which is reportedly operated by Chinese nationals still had several customers.
The incident was caught on surveillance cameras which monitor the business and investigators were in the process of reviewing footage yesterday with the hope of identifying and capturing the thieves.
Commander of ‘D’ Division Marlon Chapman said that up to late yesterday afternoon no arrests had been made.
Reports reaching this newspaper revealed that the gunmen entered the supermarket and held the staff and customers at gunpoint. They then demanded valuables, cash, cellular phones and other items which were handed over to them before they proceeded to the cashier who was relieved of an undisclosed amount of cash. The men then fled on foot.
No one was injured.
Several efforts made to contact the owner for a comment proved futile.
