A newspaper vendor was on Friday afternoon discovered dead near his stall at One Mile, Linden and the police are awaiting the result of the post-mortem examination to determine his cause of death.
He has been identified as 60-year-old Albert Ashby.
Reports reaching Stabroek News revealed that the body of the elderly newspaper vendor was found lying motionless near his stall around 6 pm on Friday. An alarm was raised and he was taken to the Linden Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Commander of ‘E’ Division Calvin Brutus told this newspaper that Ashby’s body was examined by investigators following the discovery but there were no visible marks of violence.
He noted that while foul play is not suspected, the police are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination which is scheduled for Wednesday.
Ashby had a quantity of money and other valuables in his possession which were intact.
